OAKLAND, CA – Carl Martin, an 89-year-old resident of Oakland, was killed Sunday when the Honda minivan he was riding in was struck by a stolen car. The accident occurred in East Oakland.
Three others suffered injuries in the collision, according to police. The minivan was driving southbound on 98th Avenue at about 3:02 P.M. Sunday when the accident occurred.
Police reported that as the van was making a turn to go eastbound on E Street it was hit broadside by a maroon colored Ford Edge that was driving northbound on 98th. This caused the van to strike another car that was stopped at the traffic light on E Street.
Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the maroon Ford Edge was immediately arrested once it was determined that the vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen, according to police. The name of the driver has not been released.
